Why Reddit downloads are often silent
Reddit's own video player streams the picture and the sound as two separate files. If you save the video with a browser extension or by right-clicking, you usually get only the picture — which is why "Reddit video no sound" is such a common search. Zovan downloads both tracks and merges them on the server, so the MP4 you get has audio, just like on Reddit.
Want to understand what's going on behind the scenes? Our guide Reddit video has no sound — how to fix it explains it in plain words.
What you can download from Reddit
- Videos uploaded to Reddit (hosted on v.redd.it), in up to 1080p.
- GIF-style posts, which Reddit stores as short videos.
- The audio of a video on its own.
Many Reddit posts are just links to other sites — YouTube, Streamable, Imgur. For those, open the original site; the video isn't stored on Reddit. Posts in private or quarantined subreddits and NSFW posts that require a login can't be fetched.
Choosing a resolution
Reddit stores several heights — typically 240p to 1080p depending on the original upload. Clips are often short, so Best / Original is a good default. The size of each option is shown before you download.
Respect the community
Reddit content belongs to the people who post it. If you share a downloaded clip elsewhere, credit the original poster and the subreddit, and don't repost it to Reddit as your own.
Downloading on a computer
On Windows, Mac or Linux the steps are the same: open the Reddit post in your browser, copy the address from the address bar, paste it into Zovan and press Fetch. Files go to your Downloads folder — press Ctrl+J (Windows/Linux) or ⌘+Shift+J (Mac) in Chrome or Edge to see them. Any modern player opens the MP4; if one doesn't, the free VLC player plays everything.
Crossposts
When a video is crossposted to another subreddit, the crosspost points back to the original. If a crosspost link doesn't work, open the original post (tap its title in the crosspost) and copy that link instead.
